Disc golf 101
The goal is simple: complete each hole in as few throws as possible. Start at the tee and finish by landing the disc in the basket.
A round, step by step
Each hole starts at a tee area. Choose a disc and throw towards the basket.
Mark where the disc lands. Your next throw is made from just behind that spot.
The player furthest from the basket throws first. Everyone else waits behind them.
The hole ends when the disc comes to rest in the chains or tray. Every throw counts as one stroke.
Essential rules
You don't need to memorise a whole rulebook to enjoy your first round. These are the situations you'll encounter on the course.
Agree on the throwing order at the first hole. After that, the player with the lowest score on the previous hole tees off first. During a hole, the player furthest from the basket throws first. The lowest total score, including penalties, wins.
Keep a foot just behind your marker when you release the disc. Outside the 10-metre circle you may follow through; inside it, stay balanced behind your marker.
A mandatory requires the disc to pass on a specified side of a tree, post or other marker. If you miss it, take a penalty and play from the marked drop zone (DZ) or as shown on the hole sign.
If the disc comes to rest completely outside the playing area, add a penalty. Continue from where it crossed out of bounds, with up to one metre of relief in-bounds.
